MALL
MADNESS PART 3/3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Author's
note: This part begins a few hours AFTER the successful
completion
of the mission. If need the action...please refer to
ANY of
the Gatch series videos for how missions turn out.
The
team, jubilant and depressed at the same time, entered their
'debriefing'
room to discuss the mission with Nambu.
"Well
done team. Once again you managed to thwart
Gallactor."
"Yes,
but Hakase, Katze escaped---AGAIN!"
"Next
time Ken. Don't get discouraged. Ryu, Jinpei, Jun, you are
dismissed
and remember I want the mission reports on my desk in
24 hours.
Ken, Joe stay. I want to have a word
with you two."
"Y-yes,
Hakase." Ken muttered as Joe scowled.
"Care
to explain what the hold up was prior to the mission?"
Ken ran
a hand nervously through his hair in obvious discomfort.
"Uhhh,
not really sir."
"Joe?"
"No,
Hakase, sorry."
"One
of you WILL tell me." Nambu sternly stated.
"WeforgotwhereweparkedtheG-2inamallparkinglot."
Ken muttered.
"Is
that so. How could you forget? Especially you Ken. That is
equivalent
to leaving the house without shoes on."
"He's
done that before." Joe mumbled.
Ken
kicked him in the shin.
"K'so!
Well you have!"
"A-hem."
Nambu coughed, regaining their attention once again.
"Sorry,
Hakase. It will not happen again." Ken replied giving his best
puppy
dog stare with his big blues as he tried desperately to get out of
the
lecture.
Luckily
it worked. Nambu was too upset to continue.
He dismissed them
before
he lost his temper completely which was usually a rarity though
Ken and
Joe always had a way of bringing it forth.
Before
going their separate ways, Ken stopped.
"K'so!"
"Ken,
that's my line!"
"We
didn't get Jun anything! She's gonna
kill us a thousand different
ways!"
"You're
still not gonna drive my car and besides, she'll just kill
YOU. I KNOW how to smooth women over...Sicilian
charm. Jun falls
for it
every time."
"You
just cook her a nice Italian dinner and do the dishes thus
pleasing
BOTH Jun AND Jinpei. With Jinpei on
good behavior, Jun
stays
in fine spirits."
"Works."
"Hmph."
"Awwwwww..."
"I
CAN and WILL do better." Ken muttered under his breath.
"What
was that?"
"Nothing
Joe, nevermind."
The
night of Jun's birthday--little bash being held at the Snack J.
Some of
Jun's friends and the team, sans Ken are in attendance.
Ken was
unusually late. Jun wondered if Nambu
sent him on some solo
mission. As the party began, Jun kept wondering about Ken. He had
never
missed a party of hers. She asked every
teammate, particularly
Joe,
but nobody knew of his whereabouts.
Thirty
minutes into the party, Jun slowly pushed the matter over Ken's
whereabouts
aside and got into the mood of the party. It was on her
behalf
afterall. Dancing away, lost in the music...she didn't see
the
tuxedo clad young man enter, hands full of a bouquet of red
long-stem
roses and a VERY expensive bottle of wine.
Suddenly
the room grew quiet as all turned to stare at the newcomer.
Jun,
pushing people aside, managed to get a view of this late addition
who was
standing in the shadows of the entranceway.
"Ken?
Is that you?" she asked while nervous energy built up within
her.
Off to
the side, Ryu had to shove Joe's chin upwards to close his
gaping
mouth.
Ken
said nothing, only nodding an affirmative to his name and motioned
for her
to step closer.
"Jun,
for years I've known of your affection for me yet I never
acknowledged
it eventhough I wanted to, so badly.
Tonight, I say
to hell
with rules and regulations. I'm yours
for this, your birthday
night.
We go wherever, whenever, and do whatever you wish m'lady."
he
softly replied as he handed her the roses and wine. Her heart lept,
but her
body remained calm and composed.
"ANYthing?"
"You're
the birthday girl so...yes, whatever is within my ability to
give
you. Just please don't ask for a billion dollars...I'll never
have
that."
"Hmmmm.....whatever
should I choose?"
Ken
gulped.
"I
know!" she answered gleefully as she grabbed him by the bowtie
and
prepared to drag him upstairs.
As she
walked by Joe, he quickly kept pace and strode alongside Ken.
"Wow,
if this is your b-day gift this year...how are you going to
top it
next year? Do I hear wedding bells?" Joe muttered.
Ken
raised his arms as best he could in an imitation of a shrug as
Jun
dragged him up and away.
The
next day....
Jun was
humming and prancing about the Snack J as she prepared it
for
business. Jinpei simply stared at her,
speechless.
Joe and
Ryu entered for their daily tea and the local newscast.
"Hey
Jun! Any idea why our fearless leader cancelled training
this
morning?"
"Why
no Ryu, I was as surprised as you."
"Helluva
night, eh Jun?" Joe snickered. "Bet the mighty eagle doesn't
have
any flap in his wings this morning."
THWAP!
"Jun!"
"Shut
up, Joe!!!"
"K'so!"
END.
